UP Arbor Day
The UP Arbor Day is a lost tradition of the University of the Philippines. It was begun in 1918. A day was selected when both students and professor would clean up the Padre Faura campus and plant hundreds of trees. It was basically an American ritual that was transposed to the Philippine setting.
The annual ritual died a natural death when the main campus was moved to the UP Diliman area. Perhaps because of the thousands of trees in the vicinity, the UP community felt it was an exercise in overkill.
